  • To explore different kinds of losses and how these changes affect people's attitudes and behaviour.

  • To gain an understanding of how attachment influences a young person's response during a time of loss and grief.

  • To have the opportunity to view relevant resources and gain practical guidance on when, how and where to signpost to further support.

  • To use case studies from the experiences of local schools to highlight the needs of bereaved pupils and how schools can support them in the short, medium and longer term.

Supporting Positive Mental Health in Schools

The objectives of the course:

  • To understand the theory of effective listening and the barriers to good listening.

  • To explore how containment and reciprocity impact on behaviour in schools.

  • To explore how active listening allows us to build therapeutic relationships with children and young people.

  • To provide practical opportunities to build active listening skills.

The objectives of the course:

  • To explore our understanding of mental health, the stigmas around it and how it can impact on a pupil's ability to access their education.

  • To have the opportunity to explore relevant resources and strategies that support emotional resilience in children and young people.

  • To use case studies from the experiences of local schools to highlight the needs of pupils and how schools can support them in the short, medium and long term.

  • To understand the importance of self-care and professional boundaries for those professionals supporting the mental health of pupils.
