I originally trained as a nurse and over my 30 year career specialised in paediatrics and palliative care. From this I gained an interest in psychological therapies and retrained in counselling in 2006. I worked as Head of Children and Young People’s services for a local Charity for 8 years where I established and ran a specialist children and young people’s bereavement service. I also worked for a national children’s bereavement charity in Cumbria and then on their National Homicide Peer Support Project.
I set up and established Listening Tree, with my colleague Annie, in 2015, through a shared passion to support the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people and those who are alongside them.
Through the Covid pandemic I worked at a hospital bereavement service providing telephone support to those bereaved and staff support.
I have more recently worked with Lancashire Police providing trauma focused counselling.
I have extensive experience in my roles as counsellor, supervisor, coach, trainer and facilitator supporting both adults and children.
